Announcements:
B.C. Hydro is in the midst of installing 1.8 million new smart meters in homes and businesses across the province. They claim these are designed to monitor energy use in real time, and to electronically transmit recorded data several times a day to the utility company.
A smart meter is an electrical meter that records consumption of electric energy in intervals of an hour or less, and communicates the information at least daily back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes. Smart meters enable two-way communication between the meter and the central system. Unlike home energy monitors, smart meters can gather data for remote reporting.
On Hornby Island and elsewhere there has been a great deal of opposition to the installation of these meters based on international concerns about ill health from the transmitted signals, fire – a number of reported incidences occurring after installation of smart meters, personal security and privacy, and not least the overall effect of the wireless waves being transmitted through the grids.
The company chosen to instal the new units is Corix. Hence the messages being sent out periodically throughout this program warning residents of Hornby Island that seven Corix vehicles have arrived and that it’s time for the revolutionary cavalry of Hornby to gather together and cut them off at the pass, prevent this intrusion.
